Government Of Assam Revenue & Disaster Management DIRECTORATE OF LAND REQUISITION ACQUISITION & REFORMS

Assam Bhoodan Gramdan Board

Special Duties and Responsibilities assigned to the Assam Bhoodan Gramdan Board

  • Renewal/Reconstitution of the Gramsabha in respect of those which have completed three years (Section 4 (2) of the Gramdan Act, 1961.
  • Prepare full details of land comprising the Gramdan Village.
  • Furnish Proposals to the State Government (through the Deputy Commissioner) for transfer of common land to the Gram Saba for management (Section 7 (2) of the Gramdan Act, 1965.)
  • Furnish proposals to the Government to allow Gram Sabha to participate in rural development programme under plan.

It is to be noted that since 1970, the enthusiasm of land donation for the benefit of the landless by big land holders as also formation of Gramdani villages suffered a serious setback. Bhoodan is found no longer a very popular movement in the State. However, land already donated in response to the Bhoodan Yajna movement and the activities of the Gramdani villages deserve to be looked after in a methodical fashion by the State Government as also by Assam Bhoodan Gramdan Act, 1965 and the amendments and Rules thereon will be found most useful for voluntary institutions as well as Government organizations towards better implementation of the ideals of Acharya Binova Bhave.
